Pastel Painter and Artist Discovery Coach
Debi Pettigrew is a passionate pastel painter using representational and abstract styles. Inspired by a lifelong love for nature, she expresses her interpretations in both styles depending on the subject matter. For example, she uses a realistic style painting animals because she wants to capture the life energy, often through the soulful expression in the eyes. However, when observing nature from the cosmos to the surfaces of rocks, new dimensions appear in more abstract styles.
Soft pastels are her medium of choice for several reasons. She loves the brilliance of colors, ease of blending and magic of layering to achieve the images she wants. She finds pastels extremely versatile and forgiving, and loves the idea that no application tool such as a brush or pencil is required. She finds the finger-painting aspect of pastel painting very “earthy” and pure. Equally passionate about teaching, she enjoys watching her students learn how to master the medium and continue to evolve as artists.
Deb Pettigrew earned her Bachelor of Arts Degree from the College of Fine Arts & Design at the University of Central Oklahoma, and worked as a graphic artist and art director in her early professional career. She teaches at the Art Gallery of Viera and is a member of the the Brevard Cultural Alliance, Strawbridge Art League, Titusville Art League and the Central Brevard Art Association.
Debi is available to teach private lessons in her home or yours. She can be contacted at 321-749-1153 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
